SafariでWebP画像表示に対応させるプラグイン「Weppy」

SafariRealizedさん経由で知りましたが、Google提唱の新画像フォーマット「WebP」をSafariでも表示できるようにするプラグイン「Weppy」がリリースされています。

Mac OS X 10.5 以降で利用でき、PPC/Intelユニバーサル、32bit/64bit対応。WebKitプラグインとNetscape形式プラグインが用意されています。

Safari Extetionsやインストーラーでの提供ではないためほんのちょっと手間が必要です。とはいっても、指定フォルダー内にプラグインファイルをコピーするだけですが。

ダウンロードして展開されたフォルダーにある「Weppy.webplugin」「Weppy.plugin」2つのファイルを「~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins」へコピー。その後、ブラウザを再起動すればWebPフォーマット (拡張子: .webp) 画像が表示されるようになります。

Fixed a problem where the plugin didn't work in Opera.

Added a workaround that was causing Weppy to not run correctly in Chrome due to what appears to be a bug in Chrome 6 for Mac. (If anyone from the Mac Chromium team is reading this, please contact me privately for details.)
Fixed a silly drawing glitch in Firefox.

それと、WebPは「weppy」のように発音するというのも知りました。WebMと吊り合わないような(´・ω・｀)。
